Interiors i love // Suzanne Kasler's Morris Lantern

Lighting is truly one of my favorite elements in a space. A beautiful chandelier or pendant has the potential to completely transform a room, elevating it from something that's merely "nice" to something that's a total showstopper. Of course, an awesome fixture is only part of the lighting puzzle, since the actual quality of light is obviously pretty important for the space as well. I mean, a room can be beautifully designed and decorated, but if you can't actually see the room very well, what's the point?

Anyway, oversize lanterns are some of my favorite light fixtures, because they make a big statement without taking up too much visual space or blocking views. And since they're predominantly glass, they usually give off great light, too. This makes them a great choice for a variety of spaces, and the Morris Lantern by Suzanne Kasler is definitely one of my favorites. It has an interesting geometric + somewhat modern shape to it, yet still feels very classic at the same time. Plus, I love that it comes in three different finishes and sizes, with both clear or frosted glass, so can really be used in so many ways. Here are some of my favorite spaces featuring this gorgeous light:

The above Morris lanterns add the perfect wow factor to this all-white kitchen by Owens + Davis. Not only does the scale of the lanterns make a visual statement, but the brass finish adds some wonderful warmth to the space as well.

 

I absolutely love the use of the smaller lanterns in this hallway space - they totally transform what can often be a fairly boring area of a home into a gorgeous walkway. *Design by Kate Marker Interiors

Interiors i love // Michael C. Hall's L.A. Home

I always find it so interesting seeing celebrity homes - not only because it's fun to see what styles they're drawn to, but also to see what decorating with a nearly unlimited budget can look like :) I recently came across photos of Michael C. Hall's home renovation that was featured in the October issue of Lonny, and was blown away by the transformation. The whole house is light + airy (though it definitely didn't start off that way!), and is such a wonderful mix of modern + earthy, with an overall masculine aesthetic that perfectly suits a bachelorpad. Here are some of my favorite shots of the home:

This bathroom is perfection. I love that the custom vanity is more a great piece of furniture than a sink console, and how the dark gray pairs with the lighter gray subway tile, minimal mirrors, and industrial lighting. The somewhat worn blue antique rug contrasts nicely with the more modern finishes, too.

Love how open + bright the dining room is, and again, how the rustic finish of the farmhouse table contrasts with the shiny modern pendants. It's such a great mix of new + old.

How amazing is that silver and gold herringbone console above? Total showstopper piece.

The living room is so cozy-looking, and though it's pretty neutral in color, all of the textures keep it from being boring. From the soft Beni rug, to the aged leather pieces, to the live edge burl-wood coffee table, the finishes and textures keep the space interesting and layered.

The house is full of interesting thrifted objects and vintage goods that Michael C. Hall has collected over time, and this vignette is jut one example of that. I love the hanging captains mirror, too.

Perhaps the most dramatic transformation of the renovation was the kitchen. It started off really closed-in, dark, and covered in floor-to-ceiling yellow tile... but is so open and airy now!

The exterior is a 1920's Spanish style home, which are pretty common in southern California. I love that the interiors aren't exactly decorated in that style, yet they don't clash with it either.

All around, a beautiful home for a hollywood bachelor!

Interiors i love // Block Printed Textiles

I have been so drawn to block printed textiles lately... There's something about the simplicity in color palette mixed with the highly intricate, hand carved details that is just so beautiful to me. Each piece of fabric is literally a work of art, starting with the hand carved block design, and ending with a printing technique that's based on thousands of years of Indian tradition. The results are impressive (and gorgeous!), and I've found that I'm especially drawn to designs with paisley and floral motifs. Here are a few of my favorite spaces that showcase these gorgeous textiles:

These paisley block-printed curtains are gorgeous - again, they are fairly simple & neutral in color palette, but the print itself is intricate. I love that the curtains manage to add some pattern and interest to the space, while still feeling natural and organic. *Design by Lauren Liess

 

The above block printed quilt from West Elm was one of my favorite items of theirs this past year. Sadly, it's no longer available (as I discovered when trying to scoop up two of the pillow shams - insert sadface), but now they have this new block printed quilt, which is pretty awesome. *Image via

 

The paisley duvet is my element of this room - it works so well with the jute rug and wood tones in the space, and I love how it pairs with the more sophisticated upholstered bed. As a sidenote... I love pillows, but whoa there, that's A LOT of pillows on that bed! *Image via House and Home

I just love that these block printed textiles add an artistic, handmade quality to modern spaces, and that these fabrics truly are works of art.
