Happy Friday, all! I say that with even more enthusiasm than normal, because man was this week a doozy! Needless to say, I'm pretty excited for the weekend, and to make matters even better, it's going to be absolutely gorgeous here in California. Sunny and in the low 80's - yes please! Anyway, on to the post :)
A couple of spaces I'm working on right now will be installing interior barn doors, and I'm so excited about it! I love the look of them, and I really love the functionality they provide. Similar to pocket doors, you can easily slide them open and closed, but unlike pocket doors, they're installed on the outside of the wall rather than into the wall, so are easily added after construction. This makes them a great solution for pass-through type spaces, or even some open plan spaces, since they give you the option of keeping two adjacent spaces open to, or closed off to each other. They're also great for cramped spaces, where a traditional door's swing would impede into the space too much.
Anyway, they've been gaining popularity for quite some time now, and I'm a huge fan. My personal favorites are the ones that have a more modern, less rustic appearance - here are a few of my favorites:
This sliding barn door is in the entryway of Meg Ryans gorgeous Martha's Vineyard beach house. I just love that the black hardware ties in with the shiny black floors and mirror frame. *Via Elle Decor
These barn doors allow the large living room space to be open to the dining room. And below, you can see that there are actually two barn door systems in this space, providing flexible open plan living:
And actually, I'm a huge fan of the whole renovation by Heather A. Wilson, with interiors by Jen Langston. Check out the whole house here, via Remodelista.
The hardware isn't shown here, but the above barn doors separate the master bedroom from the bath. *Via Architectural Digest
This black barn door above separates the living from the dining room. Again, the functionality of these doors is awesome, easily making two adjacent spaces open or closed to each other. *Design by Urrutia Design
This is such a cheery, light + bright space, and I think the barn doors just add to the appeal. *Design by Tillman Long Interiors
Love the color of this barn door, and how it provides contrast with the white wall planks. *Design by C Designs, via Decorpad.
This interior space by Jenny Wolf illustrates that barn doors can work with virtually every style! Most often seen in modern farmhouse spaces, this room above is definitely not that, yet the barn doors still look great here. *Design by Jenny Wolf
I really love this whole kitchen, and think the barn doors add a great detail. The chartreuse stools also add an unexpected dose of color. Check out the rest of the kitchen here, via houzz. *Design by Karen Swanson, New England Design Works
That chartreuse front door is such a fun pop of color, and I love the use of the barn door here. *Design by Feldman Architecture, via houzz
What are your thoughts on barn doors? I'm such a fan!
Have a wonderful Friday + weekend!
