Large cacti are one of those plants that I've always associated with being better suited for the outdoors, usually somewhere in a desert. But lately I've been noticing them more and more as indoor plants, and I'm really loving the look! They are large + sculptural, and provide that perfect punch of vibrant green to a space. Plus, they're one of those plants that can be placed in a sunny spot and practically neglected - perfect for those of us with black thumbs ;)
Here are some cactus-filled spaces that have been catching my eye lately:
Such a clean + airy space... I'd probably avoid the prickly one next to the chair, but I love the tall variety by the window.
Though not shown here, this room above also has a huge fiddle leaf fig tree, which always gets bonus points from me :) You can check out the house tour via A Beautiful Mess, here.
I just love this tall guy - makes such a statement in the space!
I enjoyed seeing Barbara Bush's eclectic NYC apartment via Vogue.com. Her mother gifted her that huge saguaro cactus to remind her of her home state, Texas, and also because it was a plant that could withstand Barbara's long abstences due to work travel. Love it!
This cactus grouping in Diane Keaton's Spanish Colonial Revival kitchen is SO cool. Love that the kitchen itself is modern in terms of finishes and selections, but she brought in the old world feel with the dining table, lighting, pottery, and cactus. Home tour via Architecural Digest.
The above cactus adds such a fun, sculptural element to this nursery. It's amazing how a bit of greenery can totally elevate a room!

Interestingly, that second photo with the cactus on the red storage chest is from an apartment in Berlin, Germany! I love that this variety of cacti can thrive almost anywhere, in a variety of climates.
And, had to end with this huge guy. It adds so much interest and texture to an otherwise minimal space. Photo via ROCO Magazine.
So what are your thoughts on bringing a large cactus indoors? I love the look, and I really love that they seem nearly indestructable!
Happy Wednesday!
