Happy Halloween!!

In the spirit of celebrating all things moody + black, I've collected a few of my favorite interiors with black painted walls.

Now, I realize black walls are most definitely a bold choice, and certainly aren't for everyone, but they've definitely been done right a time or two:

This rooms is gorgeous - I love how the muted colors of the antique rug and the organic wood table and flowers work with the stark black walls.

And again, the muted colors of the rug are a nice contrast with all of that solid black.

Bathrooms are such an unusual choice for black walls, but I think it works so well in this small space above. By painting the radiator, beadboard, and walls all black, it's unifying all of the surfaces to keep it from feeling too busy or disjointed.

I'm a huge fan of all of the white + organic elements here.

I think for me, what makes these spaces successful are the additions of white (or other light-colored neutrals) + warm tones (i.e. natural wood and gold finishes). Those two elements help balance out the stark, cold qualities of the black walls, making the spaces feel cozy + liveable, rather than dark + depressing.

And while I can definitely appreciate and admire these spaces, I don't know if I'd ever actually go all-in with black walls. Dark charcoal gray, yes - black, not so sure :)

Tasty Eats // Best Spinach Artichoke Dip

Spinach Artichoke dip is sort of a classic appetizer, and is something I love to order in restaurants. But, even though it's one of my favorites, I had never made it from scratch until a few weeks ago... it turns out, it was so easy & so good, I've already made it twice!

In this version, spinach is combined with marinated artichokes, lots of garlic, mozzarella & parmesan cheese, sour cream, and some other goodies to create a deliciously savory and flavorful appetizer. I hope you give it a try!

 

Best Spinach & Artichoke Dip

- 1 (10 oz.) package frozen chopped spinach, thawed & drained
- 1 (14 oz.) jar marinated artichoke hearts, drained & roughly chopped
- 1 cup light sour cream
- 4 oz. low-fat cream cheese, at room tempurature
- 1 Tbsp. mayonnaise
- 3-4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded parmesan cheese
- 1/3 cup finely diced yellow onion
- 1/2 tsp. freshly ground black pepper
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Stir all ingredients together in a bowl until well combined.

Transfer to an oven safe baking dish, and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted & bubbling, and the dip is completely warmed/cooked through.

*Note: if the top starts to brown too much, cover the dip with foil and continue baking.

Serve immediately with tortilla chips, pita, french bread, crackers, veggies, or whatever sounds good to you!

Happy Happy Friday!!

I don't know about you, but it's starting to feel an awful lot like Fall here in Northern CA... well, to be more precise, the mornings feel like fall, while the afternoons are still a balmy 80 degrees! But, the trees are definitely changing colors, and the cold, crisp air in the mornings has been awesome :)

Anyway, since I've sort of been in the Fall mindset lately, my October favorites definitely have an Autumn feel to them:

2 //  Short Gray & Wood Vase and Tall Textured Gray Vase //  Crate & Barrel // short is $12.95, and tall is $59.95 - Both of these vases would look great on a coffee table or bookshelf, and would work with any color palette!

3 //  Paloma Pillow Cover //  Serena & Lily //  $64 - This pillow is perfect for Fall, or year round for that matter! Love the linen texture & color of the fabric, as well as the subtle screenprinted pattern... so pretty!

4 //  Lucia Pillow Cover //  Serena & Lily //  $64 - Another gorgeous pillow from Serena & Lily. Love how this one is mostly neutral, but with the prettiest shimmery metallic print.

5 //  Brass Swing Arm Wall Lamp //  Lamps Plus //  $178 - Am thinking about using these in a project. Love the pharmacy-style swing arm, and the fact that they are plug-in, not hardwired.

6 //  Softest Ombre Throw in "Soot" //  West Elm //  $49 - These West Elm blankets really are the softest ever, and this neutral shade is so versatile... it would up the cozy factor & look great in any room!

7 //  Angled Base Coffee Table //  West Elm //  $499 - This coffee table is simply badass. The sculptural metal base mixed with the reclaimed pine top is killer.

8 //  Moon on a Golden Thread Ring //  MaryJohn on Etsy //  $24 -This shop is full of such pretty, delicate, and affordable rings! Love this simple mixed metal set, but this one with the tiny white moonstone is just gorgeous.

9 //  Gray Table Lamp //  Crate & Barrel //  $169 - LOVE the color and shape of this lamp.
