Today I'm sharing a fun design that I completed a while back. It was for a young family who were looking to create a comfortable, stylish and baby friendly space in their DC Rowhouse.
Their living room and dining room are connected, so they wanted to create a nice flow between the two, as well as create a dedicated space where their baby could play.
Heidi and her husband have a contemporary/rustic aesthetic and are especially drawn to pattern and color - particularly blue, gray and green tones. Here are a few of their inspiration images:
And here is what I came up with for the living room:
There is a perfect nook space in the living room for the dedicated baby play area, and Heidi wanted to use soft tiles to protect the little one from the hardwood floors.
The green storage bench is perfect for toy storage & extra seating, and the art collection will create a nice focal wall while still tying in with the living room color scheme. They already had a great cognac leather sofa that will coordinate well with the new items.
For the dining room, they already had most of the furniture, but were looking for ways to create better flow with the living room. This is what I came up with:
Their dining room is a multi-functional space - it serves as a dining space, a walk-through space to the kitchen, and also has a perfect corner for a reading nook. They already had the white armchair, but adding the pillows will visually tie it to the living room.
This was such a fun space to work on, and Heidi was fabulous to work with! It's unbelievably rewarding to help someone create a home that they love - one that makes them happy and one that is (hopefully!) more functional. Thank you for the opportunity, Heidi!
